Best of MN: Brainerd Lakes represented in Star Tribune compilation

Posted on: May 18th, 2012 by Brainerd Lakes Chamber

Paul Bunyan Land in Brainerd, MinnesotaEarlier this month, the Star Tribune unveiled its first Best of MN publication, noting the state’s finest food, drink, shopping, arts and outdoor fun. It’s a fun collection of suggestions – although my take is the staff of more than 250 journalists need to spend a bit more time in outstate Minnesota. One can argue that many potential statewide best bets were overlooked in the Brainerd Lakes Area, but instead let’s celebrate those Brainerd Lakes Area home runs! In the Outdoors & Fitness category for Outdoor Activities by Month, the first entry states – “January: Compete in the world’s largest ice fishing contest on Gull Lake in Brainerd, Minn.” The entry is referencing the Brainerd Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza. In the State Fare category for Kitschy Attraction, runner-up honors were bestowed upon “the talking Paul Bunyan in Brainerd.” The recognition is for our Paul Bunyan Land and This Old Farm Pioneer Village. And in the State Fare category for Minnesota resort for families the top honor went to Grand View Lodge. The Star Tribune ranked Best of MN in eight primary categories – Food; Outdoors & Fitness; After Hours; A&E; Home; State Fare; Kids & Family; Shopping. If you were to rank the Best of Brainerd Lakes, what would be your best bets? Let us know. – Kathi Nagorski, Communications Director
