Hogs – small ones that race and big, fat, sassy, noisy ones buffed in chrome. Big, colorful explosions in the sky, accompanied by the token oohs and ahhs. People that pass by – those perusing the tables of wares for the must-haves or those that follow a route shaking hands in the crowd.

5. Get your motor running, head on down the drag strip. The NAPA Auto Parts Show & Go is July 6-8 at BIR. Look for hundreds of cars to do battle at the Brainerd race track as part of this 26th annual event.

4. Shop, shop, shop. You can’t go wrong with the annual juried show, Arts in the Park, July 1, in Brainerd and Market in the Park, every Thursday, at Trailside Park in Pequot Lakes.

3. Let music – in the park, at the lake, in the club – fill your soul. A variety of options are available, including performances every Saturday night – Band in the Park in Pequot Lakes and Crosslake Outdoor Music Series in Crosslake.

2. What would a Fourth of July celebration be without parades and fireworks? Choose from numerous options, including Stars & Stripes Days fireworks July 3 and parade July 4 in Pequot Lakes, American Celebration parade and fireworks July 4 in Brainerd/Baxter, Crosby Fire Department parade and fireworks July 4 in Crosby, Crosslake fireworks June 30 over Cross Lake, Gull Lake fireworks July 2 and July 4, Bay Lake fireworks July 6, and Nisswa Freedom Days Celebration parade July 3.
