Bowled over by the 2014 Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener
Volunteers field team for Good Sam Bowl XI
For the past year, a team of amazing volunteer leaders has pooled together to create a grand event – the 2014 Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener. This event, hosted by the Brainerd Lakes Chamber with Grand View Lodge and in collaboration with the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce, kicks off this Thursday with events through Sunday in the Brainerd Lakes Area.
In the true spirit of giving back to the community, four volunteers – Dave Csanda, Shawn Hansen, Matt Kilian, and Brian Lehman – carved out time this week to field a team for the Good Samaritan Bowl XI. Their team will bowl at 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, May 5, at Jack’s House in Brainerd.
For the 2014 Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener, Dave Csanda is our Fishing Host Chair. He recruited more than 100 fishing hosts who will show our fishing guests a great experience as they wet lines Saturday morning in our Brainerd area lakes, especially Gull Lake. Shawn Hansen, Nisswa Chamber of Commerce CEO, with a team of volunteers, helped plan the free Brainerd Lakes Area Community Picnic. Kilian, as the new Brainerd Lakes Chamber CEO, has led a team of Brainerd Lakes Chamber staff members and volunteers who have coordinated the many events planned during the fishing opener weekend. And Brian Lehman, Nisswa Mayor, with the city council, has supported efforts of the planning committee, including agreeing to close Main Street in Nisswa during the community picnic.
Take the time tonight to stop in at Jack’s House and support our bowlers! This is Good Samaritan’s largest fundraiser with more than 1,000 bowlers and countless volunteers supporting the event – a similar story to our 2014 Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener – and to myriad others in the Brainerd Lakes Area – where great causes bring together great volunteers for great outcomes.
See you Friday in downtown Nisswa as we enjoy the free community picnic – free food, giveaways, vendor information, live music featuring the Gear Daddies, and fireworks!
