Regional Planning

Regional Planning Initiative

"Intelligent Growth: Regional Planning for the Lakes Area" is a collaborative effort of more than 30 local units of government, numerous businesses, and organizations who have signed and adopted the resolution to help our Crow Wing and Southern Cass County communities work together to plan for the future. The goal is to develop a multi-jurisdictional regional plan addressing areas such as transportation, zoning, infrastructure, etc. We invite you to take the time to view the work being done by each committee by reading their Monthly Progress Summary and providing your feedback.

Regional Planning Update

Terri and Pat Hastings have been retained by Region 5 Development Commission, on behalf of the Chamber's Micropolitan planning initiative which began in 2006. The goal of the plan was to implement a developed multi-jurisdictional plan addressing areas such as transportation, zoning, infrastructure, land use, etc. Through the funding support of the USDA and the Initiative Foundation, the Hastings will focus on the cluster of communities around the Gull Lake Chain of Lakes in Crow Wing and Cass Counties. The project includes review of existing plans and ordinances, developing a model waste water and storm water management policy, reviewing parks, trails, public use and recreational systems, develop model development guidelines, and share the results of this pilot project with others in the Cass and Crow Wing County areas. The details of the project and timeline are being finalized and will be available in late January.
