The educational program is currently being finalized but will include sessions on planning bicycle events to help promote your trails and community, marketing bicycle tourism and wayfinding resources for on-road and off-road bicycle touring. Bicycle tour planners have also been invited to share their perspective on what a community needs to host tours and events. Time for networking with speakers and other participants will also be included.
The goal of the summit is to bring together tourism organizations, government officials, trail associations, lodging and local businesses to learn and work together more effectively in this endeavor. Please contact Gretchen for more information gennis@explorebrainerdlakes.com
No Tourism Summit in 2010
The Toursim Summit is not being held this year duie to the fact that the ExploMN Tourism Conference was held in Brainerd in January 2010.
The face of tourism is changing. Interest in new attractions, customers desiring green tourism, Minnesotans who are less connected to the outdoors, and groups seeking interactive experiences are part of tourists changing expectations. Join business people from throughout our region to learn about and discuss these topics.
The Waves of Welcome campaign was created to welcome visitors to the region and put a friendly, helpful face on every business in the region, as well as offer a simple way for businesses to show their appreciation to visitors for their financial contribution to the local economy. It's both an educational and promotional campaign.
Businesses may participate in this campaign by showcasing special "Welcome" signage available at the Chamber and by asking employees to wear "welcome" buttons and be extra friendly and helpful to visitors. The Chamber is also asking any business that utilizes a street-front marquee to have their sign say "welcome." Special training "tip cards" are also available to help encourage businesses and their employees to help put the community's best face forward.
