Mille Lacs Lake Area (population 228)
With more than 100 miles of shoreline, Mille Lacs Lake is the area's largest lake. Shops, restaurants, state parks, lodging, golf, fishing, and recreation abound. Vegas-style gambling is found at the Mille Lacs Bad of Ojibiwe's casino and fishing launches guide groups of up to 50 people to the hottest fishing spots. The area is also home to the Mille Lacs Indian Museum which showcases exhibits dedicated to telling the story of the Band. In the winter, an "ice community" forms with more than 5,500 fish houses, plowed roads and street signs.
